Memory Cafe

On the first Thursday of the month, Marshfield Area Purple Angels hosts the Purple Angels Memory Cafe, a social event where people with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, and those who care about them, come together in a safe and engaging environment. Trained volunteers provide fun and interesting activities and there are opportunities to learn about resources in the community.

Purple Angels Memory Cafe gatherings are always free and open to anyone looking for support or information about memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia.

Each Purple Angels Memory Cafe gathering includes music, food, educational speakers, arts and crafts, and a lot of fun!

Join us for the next Purple Angels Memory Cafe

Date:   Thursday October 5, 2017

Time:   Starting at 11:00 a.m. with lunch served at 12:30

Place:  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 502 W McMillan St. (Near the YMCA in Marshfield)

This October marks our second birthday! As we start our third year offering memory cafes, travel back in time with us to an era of vintage cafes, diners, truck stops and greasy spoons! We will be sharing our memories and stories and enjoying some classic home-cooked diner meals. We will recreate the feel of a vintage diner in honor of our mother who ran the Horseshoe Cafe during the mid-to-late 1950's in Marshfield.

This event is for those with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, their caregivers and families.

Memory Cafes are Part of a Dementia Friendly Community

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is encouraging cities across Wisconsin to become dementia friendly communities: A dementia-friendly community is a place where people living with dementia are supported to live a high quality of life with meaning, purpose and value. Dementia friendly communities offer opportunities for people with dementia to remain active, social members of the community. Memory cafes are just one example of how communities support people with dementia and those who care for them. Marshfield Area Purple Angels is proud to offer a monthly memory cafe and we are dedicated to leading the initiative to make Marshfield the next dementia friendly community in Wisconsin.
